No fatalities were reported from the Christmas Day quake, and officials lifted a tsunami warning earlier issued for areas within 1,000 kilometers of the quake's epicenter, southwest of Puerto Montt.
US Geological Survey Web site released news that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the southwest coast of Chiloe Island (Chiloe), where there are several national parks. The focal depth is about 30 km.
